“Providing the absolute best tree service possible”

Our Story

I was 14 years old when I first stepped into the world of tree work. I was volunteered by my mom to help out with a family friend, Mr. Boswell. He needed an extra hand, and my mom thought it would be a good Idea for me to work and be around other men that worked. I was a freshman in high school at the time, and I’d never done manual labor before—definitely not anything involving trees.

Mr. Boswell picked me up from my house, and as we drove to the job site, he turned down the radio, looked at me, and said, “If I don’t call you back, don’t take it personal…”

I got the message. It was time to work.

I didn’t know the first thing about tree work, but I was willing to learn, work hard, and keep a positive attitude. That’s exactly what I did. The day turned out to be one of the most physically demanding days of my life. By the time we finished, I was wiped out. We finished the day, I got home, settled in, and got a call from Mr. Boswell, seeing if I would be available for work the very next day.

Mr. Boswell was referred to as one of the best arborists, many times by many different people. He demanded perfection, made sure the customer was always happy with the work, and always made sure we were safe. I have yet to see an accident, but he always warned me of potential dangers.

Most of the time, it was just the two of us out there, working side by side, working weekends and holidays while I wasn’t in school. Slowly, I got used to the physical grind. What started as something I could barely handle began to feel like something I could not only do—but something I started to love. I began to appreciate the industry, the skill, and the sense of satisfaction it brought, not only from the work we had done, but also seeing the smile on his customers' faces.

I continued asking questions, observing everything we did, and soaking up as much knowledge as I could.

Over the next six years, I saw A LOT!—every kind of job you can imagine, and learned everything from new techniques to the best ways to handle trees. I learned what customers truly care about. I also gained the trust from this 2nd generation arborist. He has told me he is on his way out of the industry, and has given me the gauntlet to continue on my own. What a privilege to be working with and learning from not only a father figure in my life, but one of San Antonio's most respected arborist.

He has told me to always believe in God, treat people right, and do a good job for a good price and the sky's the limit. I plan to offer the same caliber of service and continue to learn so WoodWorks Tree Service can provide the absolute best tree service possible!
